So I’ve wanted to create a personal project for a while, like a series of works - one that I could sell prints of - but didn’t have any ideas. So I started brainstorming about what kind of art I like, and what kind of art I think would sell. I’ve always loved pin up art, and have always meant to create some art inspired by it but never have. I also love the whole instagram “aesthetic” of the perfectly posed and edited photos of insta “influencers” and the like. So I started thinking about how I could conform the two together - have a sort of modernised pin-up art style, and have some kind of societal comment ingrained in it.
To start I went through a whole bunch of Pin Up art and saved the ones I liked the most, or thought I could use as reference. I also went through my Gil Elvgren Pin Up art book - he’s definitely my favourite pin up artist. I love the light-hearted humour he inserts into his paintings, it makes it feel like the woman isn't just an object, and has her own personality. I want to try and convey that same humour in my own paintings, I just need to think up some good ideas!
I'll continue to vlog my updates on this project, so stay tuned for more!
