I've wanted to do a self portrait for ages, and I've attempted it a couple times before but I've never gotten very far with it! So I finally decided to create one so that I can use it as a display picture for my art social media accounts.
I went through my photos and found many different photos of myself I liked the look of, or liked certain elements of. I wanted this painting to be good enough for me to want to show as my profile picture - and to stand out enough to make people interested in looking at my profile.
I chose photos for individual elements - like my hair, or the lighting - and used a combination of the poses to get the end result I wanted.
I was super happy with how the sketch turned out, it was looking exactly how I wanted it to - I felt like it was an accurate portrayal of myself!
Of course, to make it stand out even more I had to add colour! So I wanted something that represented me (dark and bright colours), and also stood out enough that it was both easily readable when scaled down, and also grabbed peoples attention enough to want to see more, and therefore click on my profile. Of course, I also wanted it to be more obvious that I was an artist, and so give people something to expect when they clicked on my profile.
And here was the final painting!! I was super happy with how it turned out, and knew when it was time to call it a day, and refrain from over-working it :)
